Leonora Carrington is one of the most celebrated artists of the Surrealist movement. She produced paintings, sculptures, etchings, textiles and jewellery, as well as writing plays, novels and short stories. She was a close friend of Edward James, a british poet and patron of surrealist artists, and the creator of the world-renowned sculpture garden of Xilitla.

Dedicated to Leonora Carrington (Lancashire, England, 1917 - Mexico City, 2011), the museum holds a collection of sculptures, lithographic prints and drawings. Museo Leonora Carrington Xilitla’s mission is to contribute to the cultural and artistic life of Xilitla and its inhabitants through its collection, temporary exhibitions and activities.
It strives to be a key destination for tourists visiting the Huasteca region and to become the hub of cultural and artistic activities in Xilitla.

Our Visitor Experience team, also known as Akus, provide high-quality and imaginative experiences. 
They take their name from one of Carrington’s sculptures, Aquí Aku, which in turn refers to guardian spirits in Easter Island. Akus guard visitors and the museum’s collection.
